Why People Fail

You know your trade.
The exam doesn't care.

Nearly half of applicants fail — not because they're bad electricians, but because they've never been taught how to take the exam. CertifyPro was built specifically for the two things that actually decide this.

01
The NEC is 900 pages. You get 4.5 hours.
Open book sounds helpful until you're 45 minutes in and can't find Article 250.53. Speed is the skill — NEC Navigator trains it.
02
You get stuck at 11pm with no one to ask.
Your journeyman's asleep. YouTube has 40-minute videos. The AI Tutor gives you a direct answer with the article cited in under 10 seconds.
03
The competition charges $279 to $950.
Bootcamps, seminars, monthly subscriptions. CertifyPro is $67. One payment. Yours forever.

Feature 02

NEC Navigator

The exam is open book — but finding the right article under pressure is a skill most people never practice. NEC Navigator gives you a plain-English index of every major article, sorted by exam frequency, with exam traps called out.

⚠ EXAM TRAP
Exam trap — Art. 430: Don't use Table 430.52 OCPD values as conductor ampacity. Conductors are sized from 430.22 (125% of FLC), not the OCPD. This trips up experienced electricians every exam cycle.

Common questions,
straight answers.

Is the California electrician exam open book or closed book? +
Exam

It depends on which exam. The General Electrician (Master) certification exam is semi-open book — the NEC and certain reference materials are provided at the testing center. The C-10 Contractor license exam (Law & Business + Trade) is closed book, administered on computer at a PSI testing center. CertifyPro prepares you for both, teaching you to work quickly with the code when it's available, and to know the key rules cold when it's not.

How many questions are on the exam, and how long do I have? +
Exam

The General Electrician certification exam has 100 questions with a 4-hour, 30-minute time limit. You need a 70% to pass (70 correct). The C-10 trade exam has 115 questions with 210 minutes. That works out to roughly 2.5 minutes per question — time pressure is real, and learning to move fast is a core part of what CertifyPro trains.

What score do I need to pass? +
Exam

70% on both exams. For the 100-question General Electrician exam, that's 70 correct answers. You'll get your score immediately when you finish — no waiting. CertifyPro's sim exams won't let you stop until you're hitting 80%+ consistently, giving you a real cushion on test day.

If I fail, how long do I have to wait to retake it? +
Exam

60 days from the date you failed. You'll need to submit a retest application and pay a $100 fee. You have up to one year from your eligibility notice to pass — if that window expires without passing, you have to reapply from scratch. That 60-day wait is expensive in time and money. CertifyPro is designed to get you through on the first attempt.

What's actually on the exam? What topics are tested? +
Exam

The bulk is National Electrical Code (NEC) — grounding & bonding (Art. 250), branch circuits (Art. 210), load calculations (Art. 220), overcurrent protection (Art. 240), motors (Art. 430), and services. The C-10 exam also includes California Law & Business: contracts, bonds, Cal/OSHA, CSLB rules, and workers' comp. CertifyPro's 18 modules cover every topic, weighted by how often it actually appears on the exam.

How long does it take to prepare? +
Course

Most people are ready in 4–6 weeks studying 1–2 hours a day. CertifyPro's 6-week roadmap structures exactly that — starting with high-frequency topics, building to sim exams in the final week. If you already have strong NEC knowledge from the field, some students move through it in 2–3 weeks. The AI Tutor and readiness score tell you when you're actually ready, not just when you've finished reading.

Can I use CertifyPro during the exam? +
Logistics

No — phones, laptops, and tablets are not permitted at PSI testing centers. CertifyPro is a study tool, not a test-day resource. What it does is train you to find things fast in a physical NEC codebook and memorize the rules that come up most often — so when you're sitting in that room with just your codebook, you already know exactly where to look.

What do I get for $67? Is there a subscription? +
Course

One payment. Lifetime access. No subscription. You get all 18 modules, the AI Tutor (unlimited questions), the NEC Navigator, timed sim exams, the 6-week roadmap, and the formula cheat sheet. If you have to retake the exam after the 60-day wait, you still have full access — no repurchase needed.

Do I need to already own the NEC codebook? +
Logistics

For the General Electrician exam, the NEC is provided at the PSI testing center — you don't bring your own. That said, studying with a physical copy as you go through CertifyPro is strongly recommended. You want to know the book's layout cold before test day. A 2020 NEC runs $100–$120 new, or you can often find used copies for less.

How is CertifyPro different from Mike Holt or Thompson Learning? +
Course

Two things: price and the AI Tutor. Thompson Learning charges $160/month. Mike Holt runs $85–$150+. Neither has an AI that answers your questions in real time. When you're stuck on a motor calculation at 10pm, CertifyPro gives you a direct answer with the NEC article cited in seconds. No other exam prep in this space does that — at any price.
